Camp on the Road

the long afternoon, the trail in dappled gold.

The road runs on. The fire-pan is in the pack. The kindling is small but dry. There is a clearing ahead, half-circled by stones placed by other travelers, with a small heap of black ash at the centre.

Set the camp. Build the fire. Sleep on the road tonight. A day will pass.
