Three Springs Village

A Wild-Clans hamlet, two days north of Hearthhold

Wet stone, cedar smoke, wild garlic crushed underfoot, and the cold mineral note of the three springs themselves.

Six houses, a smithy, and a single inn around the cold springs that gave the village its name. The villagers are suspicious of strangers on the first night and warm by the third. Prices run 20-30% higher than Hearthhold because everything came up the Clan Road by mule.

The Inn — Greta of the Three Springs House

Greta led you up the stairs herself, set down a wool blanket, and waited until you were under it before she closed the door. The room smelled of cedar. The window faced the springs.

What you heard here

  • Greta says the road to the Cold Spire is colder this year than last.
  • Hild says the Spire of the Quill has new lights in the windows.
  • Two travelers stayed here a fortnight ago. They wore Iron-Kingdoms boots and went on north.
  • Greta, pouring at the late fire, mutters about a chronicler who came through last spring asking every keeper on the road the same questions. She told him what her grandmother told her: 'Some things the realm keeps unwritten on purpose. Don't write down what the ground hasn't told you.' She thinks his name was Pell. He paid for two nights and slept one. The slip of paper he left her said only 'thank you for the unwritten.' She has it pinned by the hearth still.

Hearthhold is the best of the realm's towns. Three Springs Village is one of the others. There is value in walking to it on the way back home.
