The cells are four. The one you are in has straw on the floor and a small high window. The cell across from you is empty. The cell beside you is not. You can hear the night beginning outside, then ending.
What happens in the dark
Released early — someone vouched
Captain Vellow himself appears at the cell mid-night. "Someone has spoken for you," he says. He does not name them. He opens the door. You walk out at the false dawn, before the night is fully over. The chronicle records that someone in Hearthhold believes in you. The chronicle does not name them either.
By morning
Captain Vellow released you early. Someone in Hearthhold vouched for you. He would not say who.
You will not be remembered for one night in the cells. The Watch forgets faster than the kingdom does. The chronicle remembers it anyway. — P
